The Kotzebue Police Department Staff are a diverse group, of dedicated professional individuals, driven by a desire to work with and help the community achieve safety and prosperity. Our staff come from all over the United States with one common goal of public service to the people of Kotzebue.
The Kotzebue Police Department is responsible for public safety through community engagement and the enforcement of laws and statutes at the state and municipal level. We operate a jail and communications component under the Kotzebue Regional Jail structure (KRJ). The Police Department and Regional Jail operate 24/7 all year with communications for the Police, Fire, Ambulance and the Alaska State Troopers assigned to the Kotzebue post. Kotzebue is the E-911/ 911 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for the NANA region.
The Kotzebue Police Department was formed in 1969. Prior to that, law enforcement was accomplished by the Alaska State Troopers, and in past territorial days by the U.S. Marshal Service.
